The CIO/CMO Partnership


I wanted to repost a discussion I had with a group of CIOs. It is relevant in terms of how CIOs and CMOs need to get on the same team. They both have to deliver business outcomes that resonate with the CEO and CFO. The most needed cooperation is in mustering troops to find the information that will lead them along the proper strategic path forward. Some of that information comes through customer interaction that clearly sits in the wheelhouse of the anthropological leaning of the CMO, while another set of information is stored in the form of bits and bytes that requires the digital forensic tacticians within the realm of the CIO. I shared a quote from researcher E.O. Wilson that still speaks to our time elegantly, “We are drowning in information, while starving for wisdom. This world henceforth will be run by synthesizers, people able to put together the right information at the right time, think critically about it, and make important choices wisely.”
